Department Head: Michael Doucette

Brian Pedersen - Art
Brian Pedersen received his Bachelors of Science: Art Education from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. While living in Wisconsin he focused much of his artistic energy into various forms of printmaking such as; etching, engraving, wood-cuts and screen printing. Since relocating to San Francisco in 99’ he was deeply inspired by the lively art and music scene in his local mission neighborhood and began to focus his attention more on oil painting.

Mr. Pedersen began teaching at Piner in 05’, teaching both art and ceramics, and recently relocated again to Petaluma with his wife and newborn son.
Mike Simpson - Band
My life almost began in the back of a 1948 Studebacker as my dad was rushing my mom from Santa Rosa to Sonoma Hospital.
I've always had an aversion to mecanics since. I grew up in Santa Rosa and along the way got involved in music and decided at age 12 I wanted to be a music teacher. My first music teacher was always happy and fun and I realized he was getting paid too!
After graduating from Montgomery High School I continued on a few years in college and decided I wanted a break. I had started working in restaurants at age 15 and had kept working all that time so I decided to try a career in that. I worked my up to chef for a corporate restaurant and eventually became a general manager, running restaurants in Reno, San Diego and Texas. I realized after some years I really wanted to be a teacher so back to school I went, getting a credential and my Bachelors and Masters at the University of Redlands. I spent five years teaching in the Palm Springs area and then decided to head back home after being away for
17 years. I have been at Piner High ever since teaching a myriad of subjects to a lot of students.
Nick Mancillas - Art

And moved North Santa Rosa to teach at Piner High in 1994 to raise his family.

Mr. Doucette loves music, yoga, baseball, time spent in nature, time with family and friends, eating a good meal, and learning new skills.

Mike Milbrath - Vocal Music Director at Piner High School, Asst. Principal at RVMS

Michael Milbrath has been the Vocal Music and Theatre Director at Piner High School for 18 years. He began his career at Piner after an artistically rich but financially poor career as a song and dance man in Minneapolis, Minnesota and New York City, New York. In his 19 years he has produced and directed over 26 plays and musicals. His choral ensembles at Piner have traveled to Southern California, the Bahamas, Hawaii, and to Carnegie Hall in New York to sing with Phil Mattson.

He has been nominated twice for “Teacher Of The Year” honors by the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce and once by the California League of High Schools. Students are encouraged to submit portfolios for the Advanced Placement exam during the spring semester; a successful score on this exam is recognized by most colleges and universities as having earned college credit for this course.
