The Physical Education program at
Piner High School focuses on personal fitness, life long
activities, healthy living, team, individualized and
non-traditional games, as well as teaching our students
cooperation and teamwork. The first year program introduces
students to a variety of fitness activities and proper weight
training techniques and safety.
Students perform a variety of cardiovascular exercises using our
all weather track, gyms, fitness lab equipment, jump ropes and
various other workouts for the heart. Students get a full body
workout at least once per week in our fitness lab. This is done
by completing a cardiovascular workout and weight training on
our Body Master Weight System, plus other weight resistance
machines designed to improve strength. Students in the first
year spend time in the classroom each week, learning about
specific health and fitness related topics. Each student is
required to keep a portfolio with all written work that is
assessed on a regular basis. In addition to personal workouts
and classroom pedagogy, first year students enjoy four week
units that include a variety of sports and games.
The second year program focuses on sport specific courses such
as dance, badminton, basketball, weight training and soccer.
Students may also elect to take second year physical education
in a P.E. 3~4 course in which students perform a variety of
fitness based activities and are offered individual, team and
non traditional activities throughout the school year.
Our facilities include an all weather track and artificial turf
football/soccer field, tennis courts, baseball and softball
fields, outdoor basketball courts, two gymnasiums, a classroom,
a weight room and fitness lab. All students have opportunities
to use all facilities during the physical education experience.
The Piner Physical Education program consists of four full time
and two part time instructors.
